Short Biography (in English)

Prof. Ricardo Gudwin is an Associate Professor at the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Campinas - Brazil. He was born in Campinas-SP, Brazil, in 1967, and received the B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering in 1989, the M.S. degree in Electrical Engineering in 1992 and the Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering in 1996, all of them from the Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering, State University of Campinas - Brazil. Since 2003, he has held a tenured position at DCA-FEEC-UNICAMP. His earlier research interests include fuzzy systems, neural networks and evolutionary systems. From 1995 to 2005, he deeply studied the relationship between Semiotics and Intelligent Systems, helping to ground the basis of Computational Semiotics and Semiotic Synthesis, working on the use of Semiotics in intelligent agents, using the simulation of intelligent agents in virtual reality environments. His current research interests include the study of cognitive architectures, cognitive systems, artificial cognition, and the frontier between semiotics and cognitive sciences. He was the editor-in-chief of the journal "Controle & Automação", published by the SBA - Brazilian Society for Automation from Sept. 2004 - Dec. 2008, and vice-president of SBCC, the Brazilian Society for Cognitive Science, from 2013-2017. He is actually an associate researcher of H.IAAC (Hub of Artificial Intelligence and Cognitive Architectures), co-PI of CEPID BRAINN (Brazilian Institute of Neuroscience and Neurotechnology)/FAPESP, and a co-PI at Smartness 2030, Engineering Research Center (CPE)/FAPESP.

Ricardo Ribeiro Gudwin é professor associado no Departamento de Engenharia de Computação e Automação Industrial, da Faculdade de Engenharia Elétrica e de Computação, da Universidade Estadual de Campinas - DCA/FEEC/UNICAMP. Obteve sua graduação em Engenharia Elétrica (1989), Mestrado em Engenharia Elétrica (1992), Doutorado em Engenharia Elétrica (1996), e Livre Docência em Engenharia de Computação (2003), todos os títulos pela FEEC/UNICAMP. Atua na área de sistemas inteligentes, tendo apresentado contribuições nas áreas de sistemas e lógica fuzzy, redes neurais e sistemas evolutivos. Entre 1995 e 2005 estudou profundamente o relacionamento entre a semiótica e sistemas inteligentes, semiótica computacional e síntese semiótica, agentes inteligentes e a simulação de agentes inteligentes em ambientes de realidade virtual. Mais recentemente tem trabalhado nas áreas de Arquiteturas Cognitivas, Sistemas Cognitivos, Cognição Artificial e na fronteira entre Semiótica e Ciência Cognitiva. Foi o editor geral da revista Controle & Automação, revista da SBA - Sociedade Brasileira de Automática, de setembro de 2004 a dezembro de 2008 e vice-presidente da SBCC - Sociedade Brasileira de Ciência Cognitiva, de 2013 a 2017. É atualmente pesquisador associado do H.IAAC (Hub de Inteligência Artificial e Arquiteturas Cognitivas), co-PI do CEPID BRAINN (Brazilian Institute of Neuroscience and Neurotechnology)/FAPESP   e co-PI no Smartness 2030, Centro de Pesquisas em Engenharia (CPE)/FAPESP.
